Course Structure

For Our Online Class Sessions:

• Sessions will be run on Zoom and parent supervision is recommended - why not participate!
• Tablet or PC charged up & internet connected with Zoom app, microphone and sufficient sound volume
• Internet connection sufficient to support live video

For 'In Person' classes:

• See requirements below for your Edison Robot
• A Tablet or Laptop PC if available
• Bring some of your own Lego
• Other items will be specified for individual classes

For your Pet-Bot:

• A remote control - your TV / DVD remote should work just fine, as will any infra-red remote with at least 8 buttons, just don't expect to get it back!
• Batteries: 4 x 'AAA' for your “Pet-Bot” and don't forget the remote control
• Re-chargeable batteries recommended with a spare set available & charged up
• Some Lego - beneficial but not essential!

.. well, we assume you're a parent but it's not a requirement ..

It's a winter (or another lockdown!) evening and the kids are in bed (or should be). They've got this new Lego-compatible robot and you're dying to try it out - "Lego sure ain't what it used to be!" - it's come a long way since I was a kid too!

We're offering a less structured, more informal club, still online, where we exchange ideas, conversation and our robotic Lego creations. Some people actually find this stuff relaxing! - at least it will get your mind off work and onto something creative, with a social element too. This is for the Lego / Robotics / Coding fanatics and yes .. the 'techies' amongst us!

This will be an evening club, starting 8 or 9pm and will use:

• Scratch or Python programming - you're welcome to try block coding too!
• One Edison Robot - or alternative Lego compatible is fine
• Lego Technic is preferable or Lego Classic or any other 'bloks'
• Check other Course Requirements above

1 hour, weekly sessions, drop in format, price to be decided - please register your interest first, for a pilot course, and let us know any suggestions or particular interests you may have (Check our course themes below)

Not just for birthdays or Christmas - a “Pet-Bot” enables coding & creativity for ongoing fun and learning. Your "pet-bot" is a low maintenance pet - no feeding, no toilet training, no mess - it just needs batteries. 

As part of BlokTec’s hands-on, real-world learning approach, we provide an Edison Robot - yours to keep! Students will also be able to take advantage of their “Pet-Bot” for any future science or technology projects in addition to other BlokTec courses.

With coding options from bar codes and remote controls, to Scratch and Python, Edison is a robot suitable for all ages - from 4 to 16 and older.

Our research determined the Edison robot to be the best value, Lego compatible*, programmable robot currently available! For comparison, an entry level programmable robotics kit from Lego currently costs £125. An Edison robot retails for £45 (2020 prices).

Already have an Edison robot? – please advise and your course price will be reduced accordingly.

* Lego compatible: “Bloks” NOT essential but greatly add to the creative possibilities!
